Larry’s lifelong dedication to his community began soon after graduating high school. He started by working in the school system, later serving as a police officer and investigator. For 20 years, he faithfully held the role of Cumberland County’s Circuit Court Clerk. A strong believer in justice, Larry was a tireless advocate for fairness and second chances. One of his guiding mottos was: “Dale Elmore gave me a chance—everybody needs a chance.”
Larry never met a stranger. He had a deep love for people and was a natural at building relationships. His compassion, coupled with a deep-rooted belief in the underdog, shaped the way he lived. He was active in the Shriners and committed to supporting those in need. Above all, Larry was a man of faith who loved the Lord.
Sadly, Larry passed away on August 3, 2025 at the age of 58.
We ask that you honor Larry by continuing his legacy: help someone who has lost their way, believe in the good in people, or support a young person chasing their dreams in criminal justice or public service.
A memorial scholarship in Larry’s name has been established for criminal justice students. If you would like to help support Roane State students achieve their dreams in criminal justice, please donate here.
