Overview
The Nuclear Technology Program (NTP) offers a two-year associate degree in nuclear technology, incorporating real-world education and experiential learning. The NTP covers hands-on nuclear operations and connects students with internships to meet the short-term gap for skilled workers and technicians in the region. Central to the program are the nuclear courses to be taught by experienced nuclear industry experts.
Classes include:
- Nuclear Science and Radiochemistry: This course will delve into the fundamental principles of nuclear physics, including atomic structure, radioactive decay, nuclear reactions, and the properties of radionuclides. Students will also learn about the applications of radiochemistry in various fields, such as medicine, agriculture, and environmental science.
- Nuclear Systems & Operations: This course will focus on the design, operation, and maintenance of nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities. Students will gain knowledge of reactor types, fuel cycles, safety systems, and the regulatory framework governing the nuclear industry.
- Radiation Detection Measurements: This course will cover the principles and techniques used to detect and measure ionizing radiation. Students will learn about different types of radiation detectors, their applications, and the importance of radiation protection and dosimetry.
Benefits of expert instruction:
- Real-world experience: The instructors for these courses will have extensive experience working in the nuclear industry, bringing a wealth of practical knowledge and insights to the classroom.
- Industry connections: These experts can also help students build valuable connections within the nuclear industry, potentially leading to internship or job opportunities.
