Course Description
The Advanced EMT Medical Emergencies is one of two lecture courses which includes basic and limited advanced skills focused on the acute management and transportation of critical and emergent patients. This course includes the following topics: Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician- National Educational Standards competencies, roles and responsibilities of the AEMT, workforce safety, wellness, public health, communications, documentation, medical/legal/ethical considerations, anatomy and physiology, life span development, pathophysiology, patient assessment, critical thinking, airway management, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, acute diabetic emergencies, abdominal and gastrointestinal emergencies, urologic emergencies, anaphylactic reactions, and behavioral emergencies. (5 hours lecture per week) Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Advanced EMT Program. Co-requisite: EMSA 1201, 1111.
